MERRY CHRISTMAS

Here are a few photos from Christmas. Madison was not feeling well and really did not get into the opening of presents. She had a blast with her brother and sister and enjoyed getting to spend extra time with them.

Home Sweet Home!

Things have been hectic to say the least over the past week. On Monday we accepted an offer on our house, then on Tues and Wed Rory and I went house hunting. We finally settled on a house in Burlington Ky and our offer (after a little back and forth with the seller) was finally accepted. We expect to close and move somewhere around January 15th.

Madison has missed her Daddy very much over the past two months. We are happy to soon be living in the same house again.

!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADISON!!!

It is hard to believe that our little Wen Wen is now 2 years old. She has changed so much during the past 7 months. We celebrated Madison's birthday yesterday with family. Since Rory and I are in the process of selling the house, we decided to go to Madison's favorite Chinese restaurant. With a lunch of her favorite foods and presents, what could be better.

In October I ordered Madison a Cabbage Patch doll from Walmart. The doll was shipped to my house and a few days later I looked at the doll. Madison's doll was "born" on May 8th, the day the Madison was placed in my arms. How cool is that? The doll was supposed to be for Christmas, but with a connection like that, it had to be a birthday doll.

Madison decides to help Daddy with his work.

Beautiful Birthday Girl!

Pappaw shows Madison the Christmas tree at the restaurant.

Enjoying all of her favorite foods. That would be pasta, pasta and more pasta.

Adoption Day Photos!

Big Day for the Whole Family

What a Month!!!!!!!!!

I have been so busy that I have not had time to even think about updating here. I have a few free minutes so let’s catch up. First, Rory was promoted and got the call on Halloween. So we will be moving to the Cincinnati area. With Madison in First Steps and since switching counties will be much easier than switching states; we have decided to stay on the Kentucky side of the river. So, we will be moving to the Hebron – Ft. Mitchell, KY area. After a few weeks of painting, raking and various odd jobs around the house, we finally have the FOR SALE sign in the yard. Now we have our fingers crossed for a quick sale. Rory is already living in Cincinnati. He comes home for one night each weekend. We all miss him, but Madison is definitely suffering from some abandonment issues. She is adjusting better now as she seems to have wrapped around the idea that Daddy is not gone, and comes home each week.

We also had some bad sickness with Madison. She was in the hospital a few weeks ago with RSV. She spent three days in the hospital and then I was home for a week with her after so she could recuperate. And boy did she recuperate. During the past two weeks Madison has done the following:

-Will get up without assistance and walk. She has been walking for about two months, but she would never stand up without assistance. She would always crawl to the couch or chair and pull herself up.
-She is no longer on formula.
-She will now drink cold liquids. This is big. Madison is hyper-sensitive to cold. Everything had to be heated…milk, juice. Now she will drink straight from the refrigerator. She will still not go for ice cream. But, I am sure she will enjoy some next summer.
-Madison no longer takes a bottle. She had her last bottle about four days ago. She drinks only from a sippy cup now.
-And the most important change is Madison is now officially a US Citizen as of yesterday. We went to court yesterday for our re-adoption. The state of KY no longer requires re-adoption. However, since Rory did not travel with me, we had to go thru the courts. She is now a US Citizen and is now legally Madison Elizabeth YuWen Darnell.

Like I said it has been quite a month. Madison has changed so much, so quickly. She is becoming more independent and more vocal. She has added a few more words to her vocabulary and is quick to mimic anything that we do. Her favorite thing to do is still to watch Blue’s Clue’s (loves Steve much more than Joe) and dances to each and every song on the episodes…..especially the “Here’s the Mail” song. She is just the most awesome little girl. We are truly blessed to have her in our home and our hearts.

Happy Halloween!

Madison the cute pink poodle.

Madison was not crazy about the whole costume thing. We had to find Madison a costume that did not require a hat or any kind of head gear. Madison does not like anything on her head. She is just now getting to where she will let us put pony tails in her hair. She will leave them in her hair for about 10 minutes. But she still makes one cute pink poodle!

22 Months Old and in Our Arms for 5 Months..........

Time has flown by. It is hard to believe that Madison was placed in my arms just 5 short months ago. There are times that it feels like yesterday, but mostly it just feels like she has always been a part of our lives. It certainly changes the flow of the family to have a toddler. Sometimes I just shake my head and am amazed at how much things have changed since Elisha was a toddler. Madison is sick right now. We had a call from daycare and then a trip to the doctor. Madison has Strep Throat. Aw the joys of daycare. Madison will also begin therapy with First Steps next week. She is starting to walk everywhere, but there is concern about the strength of her joints and muscles. She will also be taking Speech Therapy. She say about 8 - 10 words, but her speech level is about at the level of a 9 month old. We are happy that there are programs like First Steps and Madison will be running and talking non-stop before we know it!!!

Camping and Wish Quilt
Madison went on her first camping trip and loved it. She did really well without the comforts of home. She enjoyed meeting more aunts, uncles and cousins. She played with her cousin Joshua, who is 13 days younger than Madison. Madison is not as advanced as Joshua yet. But she is certainly getting there. Madison says about five words now, eats most food offered, except cold food, and is getting close to walking.

Enjoying a nap with Daddy during the camping trip.

During the wait for Madison, other families waiting for their daughters participated in a ritual called the "One Hundred Wishes Quilt." Each person exchanges a quilt square, a wish and a post card of where they are from. A wonderful friend, Cathy, took all of the squares and made Madisons' quilt. I received the quilt this week. The quilt is absolutely fantastic and will be a wonderful heirloom for Madison to hand down to her daugher one day. Cathy, thank you for putting so much time and love into Madisons' quilt. I never expected it to be so beautiful.

A Month of Firsts.....

It seems hard to believe that Madison has been home for over a month now. She is making wonderful progress and her comfort level seems to grow stronger each day. Madison is now eating some different foods, but still does not chew very well. She has now found a favorite food...bananas.

Madison is very close to taking her first steps. She still holds on, but is pulling herself up on everything can get her hands on.

On June 11, on her 18th month birthday, we celebrated her homecoming and her first birthday. Everyone needs a first birthday party. She had a wonderful time. She met lots of family and made many new friends.

Madison looks as though she may be interested in the cake. However, when her fingers hit the cake she had a complete meltdown. But, thats OK....Daddy did a good job getting the chocolate icing out of her hair..and her nose...and her ears.

Madison also had her first portraits last week. She did OK but was unsure about smiling for the lady taking the photos.
